Filipinos
Learning about the South East Asians and Pacific Islanders was very interesting subject for me. Being born in Philippines it gave me a more knowledgeable advantage because I already knew a good part of the Filipinos food and culture. I was born in Manila which is the capital of the Philippines so I found it really interesting relearning about the Filipino culture because I have not been able to really learn anything new for years because I moved to California when I was really young.

One fact I already knew about the Filipino culture is that Filipino culture has a lot of Spanish influence from being colonized by Spain. Also having latino friends I found that we share the same types of foods like for Filipinos we have this dish called menudo just like the mexican dish but is it completely different. Also what was cool was how fish sauce was used alot in the South East Asian and Filipino dishes and my family incorporates that in most of their dishes. I didn't know it was common for Filipinos to use fish sauce. Also it is very common for Filipinos to have rice in every dish. Even for breakfast. Rice is a big staple crop in Filipinos food and culture which is like in every Asian country

Learning the Filipinos believe that spirits and ghost is in their religion did not shock me. Back when I used to visit the Philippines my mom would tell me ghost stories how their are bad ones and good ones looking after you. My family believes that loved ones that past always watching after you so you always have to be a good person. I believe this view is used a lot in the Filipino culture to assure people do good in the world and to make sure that their loved ones is always there for them. That’s why people heavily believe in this.
